FC Edmonton News Release

CANADA SOCCER RELEASE
Shome, 19, made 27 regular season appearances in his first professional season with the Eddies, collecting a total of 1,731 minutes. The Edmonton-born midfielder recently captained the U-20 squad in an exhibition match versus Costa Rica.
"Our club has developed a strong working relationship with the Canadian Soccer Association at both the youth and senior levels and it's a relationship that we are very proud to be a part of," FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miller stated. "Shamit has become a serious fixture with the U-20's and his addition to the roster speaks volumes to his development with our club this season. He has set a standard with his play this year and we see no reason that he can't maintain that standard moving forward."
Canada's two matches will be part of a nine-day camp in November 2016 during the FIFA international window, which will give Canada an opportunity to bring together their top players from both North American and European-based clubs.
"Qualifying is right around the corner so this camp comes at a vital stage in our preparation," said Robert Gale, Canada Soccer's Men's National U-20 Team Coach. "This is a great camp where we can bring together players from both sides of the pond."
The 2017 CONCACAF Men's Under-20 Championship runs 17 February to 5 March in Costa Rica. From 12 CONCACAF nations, the top four will qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Korea Republic 2017 from 20 May to 11 June.
"It's an important opportunity to bring them together and get them down into the CONCACAF environment against a strong opposition in Honduras," said Gale.
Canada Soccer's Men's EXCEL Program channels our nation's exceptional players into the best soccer environments. The Canada Soccer Pathway works in collaboration with our provincial and territory partners as well as the professional clubs and academies. For Canada's elite players, the program emphasizes player development on the pathway to representing Canada's Men's National Team in international soccer.
