FC Edmonton Signs Fayia for 2021 Season

EDMONTON, AB - FC Edmonton of the Canadian Premier League (CPL) has signed defender Saah T-Boy Fayia (fay-EYE-uh) to a contract for the 2021 season, the club announced today.

Fayia, known by his middle name "T-Boy", has been training with the club's first team since February, and is a local product of FC Edmonton's former Under-15, Under-16, Under-17 and Under-20 academy teams. He becomes the 19th player to sign his first full professional contract with FC Edmonton having developed through the club's academy system.

"I am incredibly excited to have T-Boy join our team," said FC Edmonton Head Coach Alan Koch. "I met him several years ago as a young player, and am now excited to offer him his first professional contract. He has been a consistently positive performer in our training environment over the last few months and I look forward to seeing how he embraces the opportunity to play in the CPL."

Fayia made the trip with the team to Winnipeg for the CPL's 2021 Season Kick-Off Event, and is expected to get playing time during the competition. Before joining FC Edmonton's system, the hybrid defender/midfielder previously played in the Sherwood Park youth soccer association, then joined the Vancouver Whitecaps FC Residency in August 2015 where he made 28 appearances for the 'Caps U-16 team tallying three goals in that span.

He made his Canadian national youth program debut at the age of 14 at a U-14 identification camp in 2015 under the instruction of coach Ante Jazic, and he also participated in a U-15 identification camp in Burnaby, BC under Jazic in 2016.

"I'm very excited for the opportunity to play for FC Edmonton, this is a dream come true for me and my family," said Fayia. "I am looking forward to meeting all the fans and to get the season started with this club!"

The 20-year old was born in Monrovia, Liberia but grew up in Edmonton. He starting playing soccer at the age of five, and is a cousin to former FC Edmonton player Hanson Boakai.
