FC Edmonton Match Preview: vs Indy Eleven (June 13, 2015)
June 12, 2015 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
FC Edmonton News Release
FC Edmonton (2W-3D-4L) take on Indy Eleven (2W-4D-3L) in the final match of the North American Soccer League (NASL) Spring Season for both sides, with kick-off set for June 13, 5:30 p.m. MT at Carroll Stadium in Indianapolis. The Eddies could climb as many as four spots in the league table with a win versus the seventh place Eleven.
Indy Eleven's 2-1 win over Fort Lauderdale ended a five-game winless streak that included three losses and a pair of draws. Indy's comeback was led by NASL Player of the Week Victor Pineda, who scored both goals to give his team the victory in interim head coach Tom Regan's first match as manager. Indy will be without 2002 World Cup champion Kleberson for this weekend's contest after the Brazilian midfielder was diagnosed with a torn Achilles.
The Eddies will be looking to rebound against Indy following a hard-fought 2-1 loss to Tampa Bay Rowdies last Saturday at Al Lang Stadium. Midfielder Lance Laing scored the lone Eddies goal in his last Spring Season match before he suits up for Jamaica at the Copa América in Chile. Laing leads the Eddies league-best offence this season with four goals alongside teammate Ritchie Jones.
The Eddies will also be without defender Mallan Roberts, who was called up to the Canadian men's national team for a pair of World Cup qualifying matches versus Dominica. The 23-year-old centre back was also named to Canada Soccer's 35-man roster for next month's Gold Cup. Roberts has played every minute for the Eddies this season in both NASL and Amway Canadian Championship competition.
"We've got one or two injuries in the group and two players on international duty," FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miller explained. "It's a compliment to us but nevertheless we're definitely going to have to change up the squad from the one that started last week. One thing that will work in our favour is that I don't think it will be as warm in Indy as it has been in Florida. We'll train in their stadium Friday and then it's game on Saturday."
FC Edmonton will aim to close the Spring Season with three points against Indy Eleven, June 13 at 5:30 p.m. MT at Carroll Stadium. The Eddies will host the Official Viewing Party at Delta Edmonton South. Eddies Fall Season tickets are available for purchase. For more information, please visit www.fcedmonton.com.
