FC Edmonton News Release
EDMONTON, AB - FC Edmonton has signed defender Sharly Mabussi (muh-BOO-see) to a contract for the 2021 season, the club announced today.
Most recently, the 23-year-old played with Bergerac PÃÆ©rigord FC in the National 2, which is the fourth tier of the French football league system. During the 2020 season, Mabussi made two appearances.
"Sharly is an exciting and athletic full back," said Alan Koch, Head Coach. "He has had excellent experiences already for a younger player, and we are excited to work with him to kick start his career again. He has a big upside and we look forward to working with him to maximise his abilities. We expect him to come in and compete for playing time immediately."
Mabussi (5'10", 165 pounds) was born and raised in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo. He spent three seasons (2016-2019) playing for Stade Lavallois Mayenne FC (Stade Laval, or Laval), a club based in Leval, Western France and competing in the Championship National, which is the third level of French football. The defender made 27 appearances for the club in all competitions, and played in major tournaments such as the Coupe de France and the Coupe de la Ligue.
"I am looking forward to joining FC Edmonton, and am so excited to meet the team, coach, fans and to start the season," said Mabussi. "I am an attacking and aggressive left back and I like to play and use my skills. I will bring all my qualities to the team and I believe that we will win important games and this year will be full of blessings for the club."
