FC Edmonton ACC Match Preview & Notes: vs Vancouver Whitecaps FC
May 5, 2015 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
FC Edmonton News Release
EDMONTON, AB (May 5, 2015) - FC Edmonton is set to continue their successful 2015 Amway Canadian Championship run on Wednesday, May 6 (8:00 p.m. MT KO) against top-flight Major League Soccer (MLS) squad, Vancouver Whitecaps FC at Clarke Field.
"Wednesday night is a situation where the Eddies are playing well and we'll go into the match being very positive," said FC Edmonton's head coach Colin Miller. "Regardless of who will be wearing a Vancouver Whitecaps FC strip on Wednesday, they'll have real quality and will be very well prepared for this match. We will have to be at our very best in front of our fans."
The last time these two teams faced each other in this competition it was at BC Place and without Miller after he was sent off in the first leg of the competition. After the first 45 minutes, the Eddies and 'Caps were all tied 0-0, but FC Edmonton went down to 10-men after defender Adrian LeRoy was given a red card. Vancouver Whitecaps FC was able to take advantage twice and secured their spots in the final after a 2-0 win.
"We've had some really good matches against Vancouver," said Miller. "I thought we were unfortunate to lose that last match at Commonwealth and we held our own until the very end in BC Place the following leg."
FC Edmonton reached this stage having beat Ottawa Fury FC in the preliminary rounds on a 6-2 aggregate score. Finding three goals in each match against the Fury FC, the Eddies will need to be on their best defensive behaviour against Vancouver knowing that their offence is sound.
Proof that the Eddies offence is on mark? FC Edmonton's striker Daryl Fordyce is tied for the all-time leading goal-scorer in the Amway Canadian Championship. With four goals to his name, he's in good company with former Vancouver Whitecaps FC striker Camillo and Toronto FC's Dwayne De Rosario. Not far behind with three goals is fellow striker Tomi Ameobi, having scored two out of his total three goals this season.
Fans will be able to tune into this match on SportsNet 360 (check local listings) for the 8:00 p.m. MT KO. To join the Eddies at Clarke Field, tickets are still available through FCEdmonton.com or by clicking here.
The Eddies will return to North American Soccer League (NASL) action on Sunday, May 10 at 12:00 p.m. MT against the New York Cosmos. Fans can tune into City TV Edmonton (check local listings) for the broadcast of the match. FC Edmonton will also present an official viewing party at the Pint Downtown.
