Fayetteville Force News Release
The Fayetteville Force announced today that it has signed wide receivers Jay Jackson and Chris Schubert to contracts for the 2011 season. Both Jackson and Schubert spent the 2010 season with the American Indoor Football Association (AIFA)'s Richmond Raiders under new Force defensive coordinator Charles Gunnings.
Jackson, a Fayetteville native, played collegiately at Fayetteville State University before joining the Huntington Heroes in 2008. In his rookie season, Jackson recorded 61 receptions for 800 yards and 15 touchdowns. While on the Fayetteville Guard in 2009, Jackson enjoyed the best season of his young career. As part of an explosive passing game, Jackson established himself as a consistent deep threat, recording 231 receptions for an astonishing 3,318 yards and 66 touchdowns.
The speedy wideout then moved to the Raiders when Coach Gunnings moved to Richmond, and Jackson became an AIFA All-Star. In 2010, Jackosn recorded 61 receptions for 938 yards and 18 touchdowns, to go along with 449 kick return yards and 2 returns for touchdowns. He returns to Fayetteville and brings Schubert with him to the Force, where both men will reunite with Lamar Little, their quarterback with the Raiders.
"I am very pleased to have Jay with us on the Force this season," said head coach Marquette Smith. "He really broke out last year with the Raiders and we hope that the familiarity with his teammates will lead to continued success."
The 5'10", 185-pound Schubert joins the Force with two years of indoor football experience. He spent his rookie season with the Mahoning Valley Thunder (af2) in Youngstown, Ohio, where in 7 games he recorded 20 receptions for 204 yards and 3 touchdowns. In his first season in the AIFA, he recorded 74 receptions for 815 yards and 21 touchdowns for the Richmond Raiders. He also led the Raiders in total points scored with 132. After a successful career at Oberlin College, Schubert participated in the Cleveland Browns' offseason mini-camp in 2008.
"Chris comes on board with a couple of years of experience and a wealth of potential," said Smith. "He and Jay really broke out last year and I can't wait to see them succeed with the Force."
The Fayetteville Force will kick off the upcoming season in March 2011 and will play all of its home games at the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, NC. Ticket packages for the 2011 season are now available with season tickets available for as low as $60.00.
