HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (Dec. 31, 2002) â Devin Brown led five Fayetteville Patriots in double figures with 19 points in a 86-72 National Basketball Development League victory over the Huntsville Flight here New Year's Eve night at the Von Braun Center.
The Patriots (11-7) defeated the Flight for the second straight this season and won for the eighth time in the last nine contests. The victory put Fayetteville percentage points over the Flight (12-8) for first place in the league standings. Huntsville had a three-game winning streak snapped in the contest.
Terrell McIntyre added 14 points for the Patriots, while Jason Capel poured in 12 and Junie Sanders and Jeff Aubry contributed with 11. The Flight got a game-high 21 points from Brandon Williams while Bakari Hendrix and A.J. Guyton added 10.
Fayetteville scored the first 8-0 points to cruise to the win. The Patriots pushed that advantage to as many as 13 points in the opening half before taking a 59-49 lead into intermission. After the Flight cut the gap to four at 48-44 with 3:25 left in the third quarter, the Patriots came right back push the advantage to double digits for most of the final period.
The Patriots dominated the play in the paint outscoring the home team 46-20 around the basket.
The Flight struggled from the floor hitting just 34.2 percent (25-of-73) and just 24 percent from 3-point range, making just 6-of-25 shots. Fayetteville converted 44.3 percent of its shots, hitting 35-of-79 from the field.
