Fans Pick Fjelland as Top RiverHawks Third Baseman

LOVES PARK, Ill. - Ben Fjelland is the top third baseman in Rockford RiverHawks history, according to results of an online poll at the team website.
The RiverHawks on Wednesday announced the results of more than 172,000 votes cast in the third base category of the All-Time RiverHawks Team, sponsored by The Hemmens Cultural Center and Lou Bachrodt Chevrolet.
In celebration of its 10th season, Rockford's only professional baseball team is offering fans the chance to decide who is the greatest player in team history at each position, from starting pitcher to shortstop to outfield. Votes can be cast at the team website, www.rockfordriverhawks.com.
Fjelland, an infield mainstay of the team's first three seasons and a member of the 2004 Frontier League championship team, drew an unprecedented 90,075 votes, 52 percent of 172,885 cast in the most active voting in website history. Brad Dutton finished second, with 32 percent of the vote (54,811 total votes). Matt Hagen (10,601) was third, Ryan Larson (10,073) was fourth, and incumbent third baseman Evan McArthur (7,325) was fifth.
Fjelland is one of just four players with 300 hits in a Rockford uniform. Though he played his last game in Rockford's 2004 pennant-clinching game at Marinelli Field, he is still among the leaders in several offensive categories. Fjelland was an all-star in '02, when he hit .344.
Voting will switch to a new position approximately every 7-10 days. Winners will be announced at the end of each voting period and all will be acknowledged at a game this summer with an All-Time RiverHawks Team poster, co-sponsored by The Hemmens and Lou Bachrodt, to be given out at a game to be announced.
The Hemmens Cultural Center is located in downtown Elgin. From contemporary music and theatre to shows for the whole family, The Hemmens features popular acts in an intimate setting.
Lou Bachrodt Chevrolet of Rockford is Winnebago's County's premier Chevy dealer. Lou Bachrodt is located near Cherryvale Mall, just minutes from the stadium.
Nearly 200,000 votes have already been cast in the promotion. Rich Austin, Jason James and Tony Pigott have been picked as the top outfielders in team history.
