Tupelo FireAnts News Release
Tupelo, MS--The Tupelo FireAnts are pleased to announce the re-signing of offensive lineman James Bridges, defensive back Johnny Mickell, and kicker John Michael Marlin to the 2005 United Indoor Football lineup.
Offensive lineman James Bridges, a native of Hickman, Kentucky, was a four-year starter at Murray State University. A 6-foot-3, 325-pound former All-Ohio Valley
Conference standout, Bridges will enter his second year with the Tupelo FireAnts this season.
"Bridges is a big, tough, two-way football player," FireAnts Head Coach John Fourcade said. "We expect great things out of him as he anchors the offensive line."
Also joining the âAnts for another season is defensive back Johnny Mickell. Hailing from Bassfield, Mississippi, Mickell began his indoor football career with the âAnts in 2003. This past season, he was responsible for 31.5 total tackles, two pass breakups, one fumble recovery and two forced fumbles in 10 games played. A graduate of Delta State University, Mickell was a key part of the Statesmen's defensive corps while in college.
"Fluent and smooth are words that describe how Mickell plays the game," Fourcade continues. "Mickell should have a very productive and exceptional season in the secondary."
Finally, returning at kicker is Mississippi State graduate John Michael Marlin. Marlin, a native of Tupelo, Mississippi, made 10 out of 28 field goals with a career long of 42 yards with the âAnts last year. In addition, he completed 73 of 92 point after touchdown attempts in 13 games played.
"Anytime you can find a local kicker from a major college in your backyard is a plus," Fourcade said. "Marlin has a strong leg and has the potential to be one of the top kickers in this league."
The Tupelo FireAnts begin the 2005 season at home on Saturday, March 19th against the reigning indoor football national champions, the Lexington Horsemen. Kickoff is set for 7:30pm. Individual game tickets are on sale now at the BancorpSouth Center Box Office by calling (662) 841-6528.
