Falcons take 2-1 lead in series

May 29, 2005 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Surprise Fightin' Falcons News Release

The Surprise Fightin' Falcons received their second strong starting pitching performance of the season Saturday night as veteran LHP Pete Hartmann kept the Japan Samurai Bears off balance with eight innings of shutout ball in a 6-1 win at Surprise Stadium.

Hartmann, who doubles as the team's pitching coach, struck out five and only allowed four hits to help the Falcons improve to 2-1 on the season.

The fourth and final game of the series is set for 7:05 p.m. Sunday at Surprise Stadium.

Hartmann worked out of jams in the second and seventh innings and only allowed runners past second twice in the game.

The Falcons' bats, meanwhile, came alive again after being kept quiet in a 14-3 loss Friday night. Leftfielder Josh Green and catcher/third baseman Greg Stevens each drove in two runs with doubles. Green's hit in the sixth broke open a tight 1-0 game.

Paul Buchan pitched the ninth inning, giving up a run for Surprise.
