Surprise Fightin' Falcons News Release
The Surprise Fightin' Falcons suffered a reversal of fortune at Surprise Stadium Friday night.
One night after whipping the Japan Samurai Bears 13-3 to start the Golden Baseball League season, Surprise was on the short end of a 14-3 defeat in the second game of the four-game series.
The Falcons gave up three runs in the first inning and Japan pounded out 12 hits against five Surprise pitchers. Starter Steven Rain lasted four innings, walking five and giving up four runs to take his first loss of the year. Rentaro Seki picked up the win for Japan.
Surprise kept the game close by scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut the deficit to 4-2. Desi Wilson singled home Mike Collins with the team's first run of the game. Josh Green then drove in David Nowak on a groundout.
But Japan broke the game open with a seven-run outburst in the top of the ninth inning. The Samurai Bears sent 13 batters to the plate in the inning and pulled away.
The teams will continue their four-game series at 7:05 p.m. Saturday night at Surprise Stadium. Pete Hartmann is tentatively scheduled to start for Surprise
