Mobile BayBears News Release

MOBILE, Ala. - With a 2-1 victory over UMS-Wright in the semifinals and a 9-6 win over Robertsdale in the finals, the Fairhope Pirates are the champions of the 12th Annual Hank Aaron High School Classic which culminated on Monday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.

In their semifinal match-up, Fairhope relied on the pitching prowess of Jake Peavy MVP Award winner Daryl Norris who fanned 11 Bulldogs in a two-hit complete game performance.

Norris was also helpful at the plate in the championship game, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Garrett Pitts picked up three hits including two doubles and a run batted in while Josh Baxter drove home three runs for Robertsdale.

The Golden Bears' Austin Pittman was awarded with the Chris Boyett Silver Slugger plaque after scoring two runs today and smacking a home run earlier in the tournament. Robertsdale's trip to the finals was paced by southpaw James Potter who was dominating in both of his starts, combining for two complete game victories and 21 punch outs including a nine-strikeout performance over Thomasville in Monday's semifinal. Potter received this year's Larry Andrews Pitcher Award.

Murphy head coach Brian Giles was presented with the Joe Toomey Coach's Award for displaying the highest degree of morals and ethics during the tournament. In an earlier contest on Monday, Baker defeated Gulf Shores 3-0. All 11 games played during the Hank Aaron Classic at Hank Aaron Stadium were decided by three runs or less.

Fairhope's victory of this year's tournament is the first for the school as they become just the seventh different school to win the first-place trophy in the Hank Aaron Classic's 12 years.

The 2009 Mobile BayBears' home opener is Tuesday, April 14 when the Carolina Mudcats come to town. For more information, please call (251) 479-BEAR or visit www.mobilebaybears.com.
