Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release
SHREVEPORT, La. - Just as it was in the spring before the Shreveport-Bossier Captains' season, Fair Grounds Field will be a busy place this fall. The park will host a variety of different events beginning this weekend, ranging from youth to college to corporate outings.
First up is a softball game on Sunday, October 17, pitting the local law firms of Heard, McElroy & Vestal, LLP and Cook, Yancey, King and Galloway. Other corporate games can also be scheduled, with full use of the video scoreboard and sound system at Fair Grounds Field. Just call the Captains at (318) 636-5555 for more information.
Then, this Monday and Tuesday, the ballpark will turn into the gridiron as there will be two YMCA 5th grade football games, with the Titans against the Buccaneers at 6:30 on October 18 and Riverside's 5th grade youth football team against Natchitoches program St. Mary's, starting at 7 p.m. on October 19.
"We are excited and grateful for such a kind offer from [Captains VP/GM] Craig [Brasfield] and his staff from Fair Grounds Field," said Raymond Lee, the YMCA's Program Director. "In the spring, we held a T-Ball weekend there, and it was fantastic. The kids really enjoyed the grandeur of the field and stadium. It's like Friday night Football under the lights, only on a Monday and a Tuesday! Huge thanks again to Craig and his staff-we hope to continue this partnership in future seasons."
The following weekend, Fair Grounds Field will host a spirit rally before the Shreveport Classic football game at Independence Stadium between Prairie View A&M and Southern University. The rally will be from Noon to 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 23, before the game's 4 p.m. kickoff.
Finally, Fair Grounds Field will once again go back to baseball in mid-November, as the Captains will host the end-of-year Northwood Classic during the weekend of November 12-14. The tournament, sponsored by Ark-La-Tex Wireline, is being put on by the Northwood Dugout Club and features 10 teams of 15-16 year-olds from around the area.
"We are trying as hard as we can to reach out to anyone and everyone to use Fair Grounds Field all year round," Brasfield said. "Anyone in the community who wants to use the ballpark for their event, just call the Captains and we will make it happen for you."
