CHILLICOTHE, OHIO - Five Kokomo Jackrabbits' players wound up with multiple-hit efforts to spotlight the end of a five-game road trip Sunday, June 19.

Left fielder Cole Nieto of Baldwin-Wallace struck for three hits, including a triple, and scored twice in six plate attempts; right fielder Griffin Harms from Wayne State singled twice in five trips; first baseman Caleb Stayton of Ball State went two-for-five; center fielder Michael Abate of William Paterson finished with two hits in four at-bats; and third baseman Ryan Hutchinson of Illinois State tripled among two hits in seven at-bats and scored two runs. Those numbers were part of a five-run, 13-hit offensive effort at Chilicothe's Veterans Administration Memorial Stadium, but the host Paints managed to sneak past their visitors 6-5 in a 13-inning Prospect League thriller.

The Sunday matinee was a back and forth issue throughout. Chillicothe moved out to a 3-1 lead after five frames after single runs in the third through fifth innings. Kokomo answered with one in the sixth and two in the eighth to hold a 4-3 edge, while the Paints tallied a single score in the eighth for a 4-4 tie. Neither side could get past strong bullpen pitching efforts from the either until the 13th. Harms crossed home plate on a wild pitch for a 5-4 lead which was one out from holding up until the hosts worked back-to-back walks to load the bases and then the tying and winning tallies scooted across on a single.

A pitching trio of Butler University's Quentin Miller, Indiana University-South Bend's Trey Bickel and Indiana University - Southeast's Ryne Underwood managed to give the Jackrabbits chances down the stretch. They held Chillicothe to a run on four hits while striking out five over six innings of work.

Kokomo returns to Kokomo Municipal Stadium Tuesday, June 21. The Springfield Sliders pay a visit for a 6:35 p.m. first pitch. A special "Way Down In Kokomo" promotion begins with two for one Backyard seats.
