Express defeat Demolition

Reading Express News Release

With most of the Express' touchdowns coming through the air so far this season, little is mentioned about the rushing attack which has been led by fullbacks Isaiah "Big Zeke" Grier and Perry Taglienti. The passing game was clicking on all cylinders Saturday night, but it was the ground game that enabled the Express to hang on for a road win over the lowly Danville Demolition 56-42. Grier had 11 carries for 23 yards and three scores, including one in the final minute of the game.

The Express scored the first points of the game with eight minutes left in the first quarter on a Grier one-yard run. The great field position was setup by defensive end Adam Vogel who blocked a field goal attempt off the foot of Danville kicker Phil Cunningham. The Express would continue to build their lead as quarterback Tom Stetzer threw four touchdowns, two to wide receiver Carmelo Ocasio.

After allowing the Canton Legends to erase a 15-point deficit in the final minute of last week's game, the Express almost allowed the Demolition to come back after they trailed by 30 in the third quarter. However, Grier's final touchdown run proved to be the game sealer and the Express escaped with their seventh straight win, and now improve to 9-1 on the season.

The Express will now ride the victory train back home for an extended period of time. The team will kickoff a three-game home stand this Saturday against the Southern Division's Montgomery Bears. Kickoff is set for 7:05 p.m. The Express has a 2.5 game lead over the Canton Legends for first place in the AIFA Northern Division with six games remaining in the regular season. So come on out and welcome home your road-tested Reading Express for all three games of the home stand!!!
