Round Rock Express News Release
METAIRIE, Louisiana - Round Rock Express (31-34) 2B Drew Robinson's torrid week continued as the infielder blasted another home run to fuel a 5-2 win over the New Orleans Baby Cakes (22-41) in Tuesday night's series opener. Robinson has now recorded seven home runs in his last eight games.
Express reliver LHP Wesley Wright (3-0, 2.53) earned his third win of the year after a scoreless seventh inning of relief. Baby Cakes LHP Hunter Cervenka (0-3, 4.81) suffered the loss after giving up two runs, both unearned, on three hits in the eighth. E-Train starter RHP Eddie Gamboa was solid in six innings of work. The knuckleballer allowed just two runs on two hits and four walks while striking out five.
Robinson wasted no time going yard, blasting the fifth pitch of the game beyond the fence in center field to give the Express an immediate 1-0 lead. The homer was the only run given up by rehabbing Miami Marlins RHP Tom Koehler. The righty allowed three hits while nothing eight strikeouts in 3.1 innings.
New Orleans took the lead with one swing of the bat in the third. After LF Chad Hinshaw recorded a one-out double, RF Moises Sierra clubbed a homer of his own, putting the Baby Cakes up 2-1. Round Rock CF Drew Stubbs took matters into his own hands, lining a solo home run to center field in the sixth, leveling the contest at 2-2.
The E-Train grabbed the lead with a pair of runs two innings later. Stubbs jumped aboard via a throwing error by New Orleans 3B Nick Noonan before a single from 3B Will Middlebrooks left runners on the corners. LF Travis Snider then stepped to the plate and poked a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Stubbs from third. An ensuing Peter O'Brien single plated Middlebrooks to give Round Rock a 4-2 edge.
Stubbs added an insurance run in the top of the ninth inning with a solo home run to left field, his second of the game. E-Train closer RHP Preston Claiborne recorded his 11th save of the year to preserve the 5-2 win.
Round Rock and New Orleans will meet again in a rare midweek day game. Express RHP Tyler Wagner (1-5, 8.73) is scheduled to face off against Baby Cakes LHP Chris O'Grady (1-3,4.40). First pitch at the Shrine on Airline is set for 11:00 a.m.
