Snohomish County Explosion News Release
Monroe, WA - The Snohomish County Explosion of the IBL and the Boston Celtics of the NBA have a few things in common: Both have led their league in Defense this year. Both have created some of the lowest scoring games from their opponents during the season and both teams have 7 players that have averaged double digits in points during the season. The true team concept is having superstars that can play in a team concept.
In another superb defensive effort, the Snohomish County Explosion downed the Central Oregon Hotshots 116-90 holding the Hotshots to a franchise low in points. Snohomish County has now held two straight opponents and four teams during the season to under 100 points. Coming into tonight's competition, the Explosion held the top defensive rank while the Hotshots held the top offensive rank.
The Explosion stymied the Hotshots in the first period, holding them to just 15 points on the way to an eight point first quarter lead. Donald Watts and Chris Keller paced the way with 8 points each in the opener. Hotshots leading scorer, Terry Horton, lead the way with 7 points in the first period. Alex Adediran came alive in the second stanza with 13 points in the period as the Explosion pulled out to a 52-40 halftime lead.
Central Oregon wasn't going to go away, however, as they held the Explosion to just four points in the first four minutes of the third period. They climbed back to within two points nearly midway through the third sparked by ten points from Horton. But the Explosion rallied to pull away as they went on a run of their own to extend the lead back to eleven points in a two minute stretch. The Explosion finished the third period ahead by 14 points to outscore the Hotshots in all four quarters of the game.
Central Oregon wouldn't get any closer as the Explosion pulled away in the final period for the rout. Watts' team-high 24 points led six Explosion players in double figures. Adediran contributed 17 with Keller and Jamal Miller each adding 15 points. The Explosion dished out 29 assists on 46 field goals in another outstanding team effort. Six of eight Central Oregon players reached double digits led by the game high 27 points from Horton. Cliff White added 15 and Doug Lamb chipped in 12 for the Hotshots.
