
Explosion rout Shanxi Zhongyu 141-99 in regular season home finale

Monroe, WA - The Snohomish County Explosion put the finishing touches on their home schedule with a convincing 141-99 victory over the visiting Shanxi Zhongyu of China. The game marked the 2008 home debut of All-Star guard Rashaad Powell. The Explosion outscored China in every period of the victory. Powell led six Explosion players with a game-high 29 points and finished two rebounds shy of recording a triple-double. Jamal Miller added 25 points and 11 assists, and Alex Adediran dropped in 21 points. In a total team effort, 10 of 11 Explosion players that saw action scored field goals. They also dished out an amazing 36 assists on 49 field goals. Snohomish County finished the game shooting 55 percent from the floor including 50 percent from long range.
Shanxi Zhongyu had five players finish in double digits led by a team-high 22 points from guard Kevin Tyner formerly a member of the Vancouver Volcanoes. Sun Chun Lei contributed 18 points, Zhai Jun Shuai added 17 and Yu Tao put in 16 points. China was held to just 25 percent from long range as they were forced to shoot from the outside. They were also outsized down low, which led to the 57-38 disadvantage on the boards. The Zhongyu will wrap up their regular season this week with two games against Portland, and their season finale against Central Oregon.
The Explosion will play one final road game against the USA All-Stars in Olympia on Tuesday before heading into the West Division playoffs next weekend with quarterfinal match-ups to be played Friday night, followed by semi-finals on Saturday, then the All-Star game and championship on Sunday, all at the Monroe Sports Arena.
