Snohomish County Explosion News Release
MONROE, Wash. - June 9, 2008 - Even with the return of their two star players, Justin Murray and Rashaad Powell, the Explosion couldn't pull out a win against the Portland Chinooks on Sunday, June 8th.
It came down to the final possession, after Snohomish County came back from a 17-point deficit in the third quarter to cut the lead to one point with a minute and a half to go. A scoreboard clock malfunction stopped the action for about five minutes before play resumed. The break was followed by several moments of up and down action, but the Explosion were never able to overcome the deficit. Portland walked away with the 104-102 victory
"We had many opportunities to pull out this win," said Brad Sturlaugson, general manager of the Explosion organization. "We had way too many turnovers and missed 16 free-throws. Obviously, in a two-point loss, that can be the difference maker. We let one get away."
The Explosion move to a 10-9 record after their loss against Portland, with four regular season games left to play. They face the Jazz of Tacoma on the road this Friday, June 13 at 7:15pm followed by the Central Oregon Hotshots this Saturday, June 14th at 7:15pm in the Monroe Sports Arena at Monroe High School. Seats are still available by calling 425-339-BALL (2255) or at the Monroe Sports Arena Box Office starting at 5:00pm PST.
The Snohomish County Explosion will be hosting the 2008 IBL North/South All-Star Classic to be held on Sunday, June 29th at Monroe High School. This game will feature the best talent from all across the country, taking place directly before the Western Division Championship game.
The All-Star weekend kicks-off with the first round of the 2008 IBL Western Division elimination round on Friday, June 27th, followed by semi-final games on Saturday, June 28th, and the All-Star Game, 3-Point Shoot-out and Slam Dunk Contest followed by the Championship game on Sunday, June 29th.
