Snohomish County Explosion News Release
Returning as the Western Division Champions the Snohomish County Explosion is excited to be playing both of the International Expansion Teams, from China and Canada in 2008.
Explosion 2008 schedule
Saturday March 1 7:15pm Seattle All Stars @ Explosion
The Explosion Organization will tip off the Season at home this year with the Seattle All Stars in what will be the first ever Professional Basketball game played in Monroe. This will be a special night with many special events during the evening.
Saturday March 8 7:15pm Bellingham Slam @ Explosion
The Explosion no longer is the furthest north team in the IBL. They will get to play the expansion Bellingham Slam, previously of the ABA. The Slam finished with a 20-15 record in 2005, and in 2006-2007 the Slam went 23-11 losing during the playoffs to the eventual ABA Championship Team. With Head Coach Rob Ridnour, father of Sonics Guard Luke Ridnour, this may be a rivalry in the making.
Saturday March 15 7:15pm Vancouver Volcanoes @ Explosion
Vancouver is one of the founding franchises of the IBL, and was the opening home game for the Explosion last year, and first round victim in the playoffs. (Current Record against the Explosion 0-2) This year the Volcanoes will be a much more improved team with returning players and off-season pickups from both the D-League and overseas.
Saturday March 22 7:15pm Bellingham Slam @ Explosion
Friday March 28 7:15pm Explosion @ Vancouver Volcanoes
Saturday March 29 7:15pm Tacoma Jazz @ Explosion
Tacoma last year struggled against the Explosion but as the 2005 Western Conference Champions there is a desire to come back to the winning level once again. (Current Record against the Explosion 0-3) Tacoma was within two baskets of beating the Explosion in the middle of last season, and could be a dark horse for the Western Conference Title.
Friday April 4 7:15pm Explosion @ Bellingham Slam
Saturday April 5 7:15pm Vancouver Volcanoes @ Explosion
Saturday April 12 7:15pm Tacoma Jazz @ Explosion
Saturday April 19 7:15pm Portland Chinooks @ Explosion
Portland is the Western Conference Champions, and is one of the few teams that have caused the Explosion some trouble. (Current Record against the Explosion 1-1) Portland returns with a great chance to repeat as the Conference Champions. This match up the next few years will be one of the best in the league. The Chinooks are a powerful team inside the paint and from three point range. Look for a close game that could go either way.
Saturday April 26 7:15pm Eugene Chargers @ Explosion
The Chargers are the only team in the IBL with a winning record against the Explosion. (Current Record against the Explosion 1-0) and have been hidden as far as notoriety in the IBL. This workhorse team is what is great about IBL basketball, they just get the job done. Expect this game to have some additional importance, as Coach Redwine is still looking for a win against Eugene.
Friday May 2 7:15pm Explosion @ Tacoma Jazz
Saturday May 3 7:15pm Explosion @ Bellingham Slam
Saturday May 10 7:15pm China Kylins @ Explosion
One of the two new International teams, the Kylins of the Chinese Basketball Association will join the league for the 2008 season. The Chinese Basketball Association has produced current NBA players Yao Ming (Houston Rockets) and Yi Jianlian (Milwaukee Bucks). Based in Xi'an, Shaanxi, the Kylins play in the CBA's North Division. The Kylins were founded in 2000 by the Xi'an Dongsheng Group. This is sure to be a huge event with international implications on the line.
Saturday May 17 7:15pm Central Oregon @ Explosion
This will be the first meeting between Central Oregon and the Explosion but these teams have played many common opponents, with Central Oregon defeating Portland in the final game of the season last year. Look for a spirited battle between two solid IBL foes.
Friday May 23 7:15pm Explosion @ Edmonton Chill
Alberta, Canada will join the league as an expansion club, and are owned by local Edmonton business group SMG Pro Hoops Ltd. Paul Sir is the Head Coach and Director of Basketball Operations, he states, "We are proud to bring the Chill to the city of champions". The Explosion will look to bring their solid road history north of the border as they face the new North American franchise.
