Sioux City Explorers News Release
SIOUX CITY, IA - The Sioux City Explorers announced today that they have re-signed closer Brett Reid to a 2010 American Association contract. Reid joins an already impressive pitching staff that includes key returners in David Trahan Ty Marotz, and Mike Phelps to go along with a revamped starting rotation led by Jae Hun Jung, whom ranked 2nd in the American Association in 2009 with a nifty 2.59 ERA while going 7-3 as a member of the Fort Worth Cats.
In 2009, Reid had another productive season as the X's closer. While appearing in (40) games, Reid recorded (17) saves (4th in the American Association) to go along with a 3.77 ERA. In 43.0 innings of work, Bret struck out (44) batters and allowed only (18) walks. Reid held opposing hitters to a.237 batting average, while finishing 3rd in the league in games finished with (37) and 5th in the league in relief points with (47). In an X's uniform the past two seasons, Reid has recorded a total of (41) saves.
Reid posted a 3 - 0 record as the closer for the X's in 2008 with an astonishing 1.13 ERA while setting an Explorers single season franchise record with (24) saves. In 39.2 innings of work two seasons ago, Reid struck out 50 batters and only allowed 13 walks while holding opponents to a minuscule.190 batting average against. For his performance, Reid along was selected to the 2008 American Association All-Star Game.
"Bringing Reid back will solidify our bullpen for the 2010 season," comments manager Les Lancaster. "Brett had an off-year last year compared to 2008, but it was still a very good year." I am very happy to know I will once again be able to turn the ball over to a shut down closer like Brett."
The 2010 season will mark Brett's 8th season in professional baseball and 4th season as a member of the Sioux City Explorers. Reid was born in Independence, MO and now resides in Liberty, MO.
