River City Rascals News Release
The series finale between the Gateway Grizzlies (19-20) and the River City Rascals (19-18) has been postponed due to excessive storms and rain Sunday afternoon at CarShield Field. If you had a ticket to the game, it can be exchanged for any Rascals home game the remainder of the 2016 season.
Possible scenarios to make the game up include playing a double-header on the road during one of the two remaining series these teams play. Gateway hosts the Rascals July 1st-4th and then again August 24th and 25th.
After an off-day Monday, the Rascals continue the eight game homestand on Tuesday as they host the first place Joliet Slammers. The Slammers have won seven of their last ten games and will meet up with River City for the first time this season. Currently, the Rascals are on a six game losing streak and the Rascals will may send either Tim Koons, who was supposed to start Sunday, or Francis Ramirez to the mound looking to put a halt to the skid.
Last year when these two teams met, the Rascals came out on top in both series and won four out of the six games. In the victories, the Rascals outscored the opponent by 13 runs and held the Slammers to three runs or less in five of the six games.
Each team will announce their projected starting rotation on Monday and whoever the starters are will have a tough task ahead of them as the Rascals have the number one offense in terms of batting average at .296. Joliet is fifth in batting average but have the highest scoring offense with 211 runs and have hit 39 home runs compared to the Rascals 29.
River City will have a great opportunity to add to their offensive season as they will be facing the Slammers staff who is 11th in the 12 team Frontier League in ERA at a 4.92.
Following the conclusion of the three game series against the Slammers, the Rascals do not have another scheduled home game until July 15th. River City goes on a ten game road trip on Friday and then the all-star break runs from July 11th through the 14th so make sure you come out to CarShield Field and watch the Rascals take on the Slammers.
Besides the exciting action on the field, the Rascals have promotions going on during each night. Tuesday is Meet the Candidates night, Wednesday is Lego Night and then "Just Keep Swimming-The Hunt For Dory Night" will take place on Thursday.
