Everything You Need to Know: AG Rugby v Utah Warriors
February 14, 2022 - Major League Rugby (MLR)
Austin Gilgronis News Release
AG Rugby is now 2-0 after two historic home wins over Old Glory DC and the Dallas Jackals, but next up is a dangerous opponent coming into Austin to rain on the AG parade. The Utah Warriors gave the AGs fits last year and kept Austin out of the playoffs in 2021, so the AGs will be out for vengeance when the Warriors come to Bold Stadium this Saturday.

The AGs set franchise records last match for points scored, margin of victory, and fastest try. While records are good and fun, Sam Harris makes it clear the team is focused on just one record this week, becoming 3-0 on the table. "No one in our clubhouse forgets those Utah matches last year, they're a big physical opponent and we're looking for just that kind of challenge."
AG Players To Watch Out For
Marcel Brache
Brache was electric this past weekend, and earned Guaranteed Rate Man of the Match after setting up two tries before scoring a try of his own. If the AGs can continue to get the ball to Marcel Brache in space the league will be on notice.
Jake Turnbull
Turnbull has never been one for the highlight reel, he's a guy that packs down hard in the scrums and gets through work at rucks around the pitch. But through the first two matches Turnbull has two tries. He's looking fitter than ever and getting himself into great scoring positions, watch out for Turnbull to go three from three. Lastly, the AGs will need Turnbull to scrum harder than ever because he's coming up against a powerful Utah front row.
Isaac Ross
Since joining the AGs in week three last season, Isaac Ross has proven to be one of the best lineout jumpers in the league. No one can forget the seven lineout steals Ross recorded against Seattle in 2021. Through the first two matches the Warriors have struggled at the lineout, which will have Isaac Ross licking his chops. Watch out for Isaac Ross to put together another lineout display this weekend.
Warriors Players To Watch Out For
Mikey Te'o
2021 MLR MVP is arguably the most dangerous attacking threat in North America. But has Utah shown the recipe to neutralize Te'o? The Legion made him defend for most of the match; forcing Te'o to spend all his energy on defense. The AGs must find a way to minimize Te'o's impact on the match.
Bailey Wilson
Utah's 22-year-old Captain is a rangey flanker that seems to make the big plays for Utah late in matches. Who can forget Bailey Wilson's 80 meter intercept try against AG in 2021. Wilson's influence on the referee and impact on the field late in matches seems inevitable.
Calvin Whiting
After a spectacular 2021 season, Whiting earned his first caps with the Eagles. He played alongside AG Captain Bryce Campbell, on Saturday the two will go head to head. Campbell v Whiting will be a key matchup that will sway the result of this match and a position battle in the Eagles' midfield for years to come.
