Snohomish County Explosion News Release
Eugene - Forget about the NBA mess in King County because a possible Championship Basketball team is just 25 miles north in Snohomish County. With four games left in the Explosion (13-4) IBL season the secret number is just two games for a West Division Title.
That is correct either two wins from Everett or two losses from Portland gives a West Division Championship in Everett's first season as an expansion team. The Explosion lost a heartbreaker though tonight in Eugene (8-8) with the final score 102-109.
Hot shooting in the second quarter from Corby Schuh and Chris Weakley helped Everett led by as many as 13 points in the second quarter 47-36. With two technical fouls called on Eugene very frustrated Eugene was behind almost all of the first half but never out of the game. The halftime score was 49-44 with Everett just leading by 5 points.
The Chargers took the first lead in the fourth quarter and a 35-24 foul discrepancy and a controversial mystery of 4 seconds running off the clock in the last 10 seconds of the game was enough to get two technical fouls and a ejection from Tyler Amaya with Everett still within two points to helped Eugene finish the game. Eugene built up an eight point lead and never relinquished the score to hand Everett a huge unexpected loss.
