Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - Florida Everblades president & general manager Craig Brush, along with head coach Gerry Fleming announced today that the team has signed defenseman Nick Vukovic to a contract for the 2005-06 season.
The 24-year-old native of Kitchener, Ontario comes to the Everblades after spending the previous four seasons at the collegiate level with Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario. Last season with the Golden Hawks Vukovic, the team's captain, skated in 19 games picking up seven points (3g, 4a). At the conclusion of the 2004-05 season, Vukovic was selected to the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Second Team All-Star squad.
"Nick is a solid defensive defenseman with some big size who put together a solid junior career followed by an all-star collegiate career." Everblades head coach Gerry Fleming said. "Nick is not going to be a guy who will put up big numbers for us, but he'll do the little things for us, like making a strong first pass out of the zone and clearing the front of the net. These types of things are why we are so excited to add him to the roster."
In his four seasons with Wilfrid Laurier University, the 6-foot-3, 190 lb. defenseman tallied 45 points (13g, 32a) in 89 games. Along with earning post-season all-star honors in 2005, Vukovic was also a post-season all-star following the 2001-02 campaign. Prior to joining the college ranks, Vukovic spent four seasons at the junior level in the Ontario Hockey League with North Bay and Owen Sound, notching 76 points (17g, 59a) in 244 games from 1997-2001.
Vukovic joins Brandon Coalter, Ryan Brindley and Chris Lee as players signed by the Everblades this off-season.
