Evansville BlueCats News Release
EVANSVILLE, IN: This weekend the Evansville BlueCats (1-1) will be on the road for the second week in a row as they travel to Omaha, Nebraska, to take on the Omaha Beef (1-1). This will also be the second week in a row that the BlueCats kick-off a UIF game on a Sunday afternoon. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN Radio 94.9 in Evansville. Pre-game starts at 3:15pm and kick-off is scheduled for 3:35pm at the Omaha Civic Auditorium.
Last week, Evansville picked up their first win of the season, 36-34, on the road against the Ohio Valley Greyhounds (0-2). The BlueCats surged ahead in the second half of last Sunday's game and held off the comeback attempt by Ohio Valley in the final minute of the game. BlueCats kicker Ton-Ton Luzayadio was named UIF Special Teams Player of the Week by league officials for his 12 point effort (3 FG's & 3 PAT's) in that contest.
The Omaha Beef are also entering this game coming off a road win, defeating the Sioux City Bandits (0-2) 38-35 in Sioux City, Iowa. The Beef trailed by 12 points in the 4th quarter before running back RJ Rollins scored three touchdowns down the stretch to give Omaha the lead. The Bandits had the ball and were driving in the games final minute when Beef linebacker Chad Eads forced a Bandits fumble to seal the Beef victory. Rollins was named the league's Offensive Player of the Week while Eads earned the leagues Defensive Player of the Week honors.
For the first time in league history, all three of the reigning UIF Players of the Week will meet in the same game the following weekend.
Sunday's game will be the third ever meeting between the Evansville BlueCats and Omaha Beef. The teams split their two contests against each other a year ago. Omaha narrowly escaped with a 29-27 victory a year ago as a fumbled snap inside 3 yard line in the games final minute cost the BlueCats the win. Later in the season, Evansville dominated the game and cruised to a 52-23 win when the teams played the rematch at Roberts Stadium.
Evansville BlueCats Head Coach John Hart said, "Omaha is going to be a big test for our football team but I know our guys are looking forward to the opportunity. The Omaha Beef and Coach Fuller have built a great football team and we expect it to be a great game on Sunday."
Be sure to catch all of the indoor football action on ESPN 94.9 this Sunday. Pre-game starts at 3:15pm, kick-off is scheduled for 3:35pm. All BlueCats road games can be heard on ESPN Radio 94.9 in Evansville.
Next weekend, the Evansville BlueCats will travel to Bloomington, Illinois and take on the Bloomington Extreme.
The BlueCats return home on Saturday, April 22nd, against the Lexington Horsemen. For tickets, contact the Roberts Stadium box office. For more information on the Evansville BlueCats, please visit the website at www.evansvillebluecats.com.
