
Essian Signs with Cardinals

Springfield/Ozark Mountain Ducks News Release
Ozark, MO - The Springfield-Ozark Mountain Ducks of the Central Baseball League announced today that the St. Louis Cardinals have purchased the contract of Ducks catcher Jim Essian. He has been assigned to play with the St. Louis Cardinals class-A affiliate; the New Jersey Cardinals of the NY-Penn League.
"We were excited that the Cardinals wanted Jim to come to spring training," remarked manager Phil Wilson. "As we feel that this is one of the major goals for all the Mountain Ducks players, a chance to play with a major league team."
The switch-hitting Essian, played in 44 games with the Ducks during the 2001 season. Essian hit .243 in 140 at bats with 3 homeruns and 17 RBI's. He also played in 8 games with the Mountain Ducks in July of 2000. The Michigan native is the son of former Chicago Cubs manager Jim Essian, Sr.
