Esks Partner to Donate Year Supply of Footwear to Women's Shelter

(Edmonton) - Today, Edmonton Eskimos President and CEO Len Rhodes, in partnership with Reebok, donated 300 pairs of shoes to WIN House, also known as the Edmonton Women's Shelter.

This cause is very close to my heart," said Len Rhodes, President & CEO of the Edmonton Eskimos.

"This shoe donation is an important component to supporting victims who may literally have to run out of their house without the shoes on their feet. Reebok has been fantastic in partnering with us for seven consecutive years and it means a lot to me. Unfortunately, I experienced domestic violence when I was growing up and now, I am doing what I can to show people that we are there to help them."

Today's donation provides enough footwear to allow the women and children the shelter serves over the next year to focus on self-healing and not worry about basic necessities.

Throughout Edmonton and area, for nearly five decades, WIN House has given women and children of all ages and cultures a safe place to flee - 24-hours-a-day, 365-days-a-year. From passionate professionals and volunteers, to dedicated donors and champions of the cause, WIN House is committed to providing safety, support, relief and resources for abuse victims.

"With the incredible Len Rhodes-Edmonton Eskimos Shoe Donation Initiative, WIN House has been able to provide approximately 2,100 pairs of beautiful brand new shoes since 2012. Every time we pass a pair on to a woman or child in need, they are excited and exuberant, " said Tess Gordey, Executive Director of WIN House. "Having footwear that will protect them from the harsh weather elements is just one less thing for each family to worry about as they go about building safe new lives, free of abuse. "

The annual donation is one of several initiatives the Green and Gold support to end violence against women and children.
