Texas Marshals News Release

Errors doomed the Texas Marshals on Thursday night in The Woodlands as they fell to the Woodlands Strykers 5-4.

Jace Reese hit the Marshals first home run of the season in the top of the first inning, a two-run shot, to give the Marshals a 2-0 lead.

An error helped lead to the Strykers first run of the game in the bottom of the frame to cut the Marshals lead in half.

The Marshals got the run back in the top of the second on an RBI ground out by Dillon Coates (Clarke University) to score Adonis Askew (Oklahoma City University) and give the Marshals a 3-1 lead.

Greg Belton blasted a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the Marshals lead to 3-2.

An RBI fielder's choice by Nick Ramos (Stephen F. Austin State University) pushed across Carlos Contreras (Northwood University) in the top of the sixth inning to put the Marshals back up by two.

But three straight errors Ramos at shortstop in the bottom of the sixth inning helped the Strykers claim a 5-4 lead which they would not relinquish.

The Marshals threatened in the top of the ninth inning as they got the tying run to third base with no outs, but Belton, who came into pitch the ninth inning, was able to escape the jam to preserve the victory and earn the save.

Nick Palacios (Abilene Christian University) took the hard-luck loss for the Marshals as he gave up three unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Jonathan Lycan (LSU Shreveport) started the game and pitched well as he allowed just two runs on five hits in five innings with six strikeouts.

The Strykers picked up their first win of the season to move to 1-5 on the season. The Marshals fell to 2-5 with the loss. The two teams will meet again on Friday night for game two of the series at 7:00pm in The Woodlands.
