Visalia Rawhide News Release

VISALIA - The Rawhide committed a season-high four errors, putting them in a hole they were not able to climb out of despite a late inning push, as Visalia fell to Lancaster 6-4 on Friday night at Rawhide Ballpark. Lancaster scattered six runs over five separate frames before the Rawhide scored four in the 8th to make it a game, but the deficit was too much for the home team to handle this time around.

The Rawhide got sloppy defensively in the top of the 2nd inning, committing an error which potentially could have been turned into a double play to end the inning. A wild pitch from Cody Wheeler would put two runners in scoring position, and after Ryan McCurdy drew a two-out walk, Delino DeShields made the Rawhide pay with a two-RBI single to center to give Lancaster a 2-0 lead.

With a runner on first base in the top of the 4th inning, Cody Wheeler's pickoff attempt went wide of the bag, allowing DeShield to advance all the way to 3rd. Joe Sclafani then popped up to the shallow part of the outfield, but both Gerson Montilla and Ryan Court lost the ball in the lights and it fell in safely for an RBI-single.

M.P. Cokinos hit a solo shot to left in the top of the 7th inning to make it 6-0, creating a tall task for the 'Hide in an attempt at a comeback.

But the Rawhide got it started in the bottom of the 7th when Matt Helm and McMurray led off with back-to-back doubles to put the Rawhide on the board. Evan Marzilli, who took over for Adam Eaton, doubled to center to keep the inning going. That set the stage for Jake Lamb who hit a two-run shot to left field off Kyle Hallock to make it a 6-4 game, giving the Rawhide life.

The rally, however, was too little too late for the Rawhide.Travis Ballew would come in and retired the side in order, ending the possibility of a comeback. The Rawhide will go for the series win Saturday evening at 6 pm.
