Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(BAKERSFIELD, CA) - The Lancaster JetHawks belted three home runs, two off the bat of Erik Castro, as they defeated the Bakersfield Blaze Sunday night 4-3 in their first game of the season at Sam Lynn Ballpark. The night also marked the JetHawks debut of Jonathan Singleton, the touted young prospect recently traded to the Houston Astros by the Philadelphia Phillies.

The JetHawks took the lead on Castro's first home run in the second inning. They added another run in the third inning when Grant Hogue doubled and came in to score on a ground out from Austin Wates.

The lead held until the fifth inning. Starting pitcher Andrew Robinson had pitched out of trouble repeatedly, but the Blaze finally broke through for two runs to tie the score.

A solo home run by David Flores, his tenth of the year, and the second home run of the game from Castro put Lancaster back into the lead and Kyle Greenwalt and Kirk Clark teamed out of the bullpen to close the win.

After a long travel day that included four airports and a delay, Singleton arrived during the early innings of the game and passed his physical exam. The 19-year old Long Beach native entered the game in the seventh inning at first base and scorched a double down the left field line in his first Lancaster at bat.

Lancaster has now won three out of five games on its current road trip.

The JetHawks will battle the Blaze again Monday night at Sam Lynn Ballpark. Jose Cisnero (7-8) will start for Lancaster against J.C. Sulbaran (7-2) of the Blaze. The game starts at 7:45 and will be broadcast live on radio by 87.7 Kickin' Country and online at CSN at JetHawks.com (click the listen live link). The Pre-Game Show starts at 7:30.

The JetHawks return home Wednesday, August 3 to open a four-game homestand against the Inland Empire 66ers. For tickets and other information, call (661) 726-5400 or visit JetHawks.com.
