Eric Pohlkamp Named 2023 USHL Defenseman of the Year

The United States Hockey League (USHL) and Cedar Rapids RoughRiders announced that Eric Pohlkamp has been named Defenseman of the Year for the 2022-23 season.
League awards are voted on by each member club's General Manager after each club nominates their players for awards.
Committed to Bemidji State, Pohlkamp registered 16 goals and 35 assists for 51 points in 59 games in 2022-23. His point total tied for the league-lead for defensemen, his 16 goals ranked second and his 35 assists tied for third. An impact player in man-advantage situations, Pohlkamp led all USHL defensemen with nine power play goals, 18 power play assists and 27 power play points. He also had more shots on goal than any other defenseman in the league with 179.
Named the USHL Defenseman of the Week twice this year, Pohlkamp helped Team USA win gold at the World Junior A Challenge in Cornwall, Ont., in December. Named to the all-star team, the Brainerd, Minn., native scored three times in a 9-0 win over Latvia and recorded five goals and two assists in four games. He also was selected to play in the BioSteel All-American Game, an event for NHL draft eligible prospects in Detroit in January.
Pohlkamp joins Jack Ahcan (2016) as Cedar Rapids RoughRider recipients of the USHL Defenseman of the Year award.
