Dayton Bombers News Release

Dayton, OH - Dayton Bombers Head Coach Bill McDonald announced today the signing of forward Britt Dougherty for the 2008-09 season. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Dougherty, a 6-foot-2-inch, 215-pound native of Swift Current, Saskatchewan, is the fourth returning Bomber from the 2007-08 team.

"It's great to be coming back to Dayton and to play for Coach McDonald again," Dougherty said. "Hopefully we can get a good group of guys together that can improve on last season's record."

In his first season in the ECHL, Dougherty netted two goals and had five assists. He led the team in PIM with 145, including 21 major penalties (ranking 3rd overall in the league).

"He's a great guy to have on your team," coach McDonald said. "He keeps the crowds entertained, he's well liked in our dressing room, and feared by our opponents."

Dougherty made his first professional playoff appearance when the Bombers advanced to the 2008 Kelly Cup Playoffs, facing Johnstown in the North Division Quarterfinals.

Dougherty spent the previous three seasons in the Central Hockey League, most recently with the Austin Ice Bats, where he was coached by current Bombers head coach Bill McDonald.

During his junior hockey career, Dougherty played for the Regina Pats for two seasons, racking up nearly 200 penalty minutes.

Fans haven't seemed to mind Dougherty's tough style of play either. He was voted "Fan Favorite" last year, a title he's happy to hold.

"It's an honor to be named Fan Favorite," he said. "Bombers fans treated me great, so I tried to entertain them as much as possible. They've been the best fans to play for in my career."
