Bakersfield Blitz News Release
BAKERSFIELD, CA - Craig Strickland, you’ve got company. Bakersfield Blitz QB Chad Elliott (Syracuse, '01) became just the second player in the history of arenafootball2 to pass for over 16,000 yards in his career during Sunday afternoon's 66-61 loss at Everett. Elliott joins former af2 QB Craig Strickland as the only players to eclipse the 16,000 yard mark. Strickland finished his career with 22,688 yards.
Elliott entered the game needing just 64 yards to join the elite group, but by the time the game ended, the af2 veteran had racked up 262 yards, bringing his career total to 16,198 yards.
Elliott joined another exclusive group on Sunday after throwing for 9 touchdowns against the Hawks. He became only the fourth af2 quarterback to throw for over 300 touchdowns in his career. Elliott (301) joins Strickland (481), Louisville QB Matt Sauk (360) and Florida QB Chris Wallace (322) in that special group.
"This kid played his heart out tonight. I'm so proud of Chad right now," said Blitz Head Coach Gary Compton (East Texas State University, '90) on Sunday. "He's gone through a lot this year, but tonight he proved again why he's one of the best."
Chad Elliott and the Bakersfield Blitz (4-4) have a bye this week. They will be back home at Rabobank Arena on Saturday, June 9th to take on the defending ArenaCup Champions, the Spokane Shock (5-3).
