
Elks Win in Extra Innings

The Bend Elks took out the Medford Rogues 6-4 in 10 innings at Harry and David Field Friday afternoon. The Elks took the lead early by plating two Elks in the first inning. Medford scored a run in the bottom of the first and again in the 4th, before taking the lead in the bottom of the 6th inning. The Elks battled right back in the 7th, and took the lead after Josh Cushing scored from 3rd on a RBI sacrifice foul out by Grant Newton. There was an error on throw to the plate with the ball ending up in the Elks dugout allowing Curtis Wildung to come around and score and allowing the Elks to take the lead again. The Rogues came right back in the bottom of the 7th after a lead off triple and and an RBI single tying up the game at 4 runs each. The scored remained tied until the 10 inning when Nick Lopez walked, then Billy King blasted a home run over the right field fence giving the Elks the 6-4 lead. Kevin Sheets took the mound in the 10th and got 3 of the 4 Rogues he faced to ground out. Sheets got his 6th save of the season. Reliever Jesse Pratt collected his second win for Bend after throwing 3 solid innings after entering the game in the 7th. The Independence Day win for the Elks knocks the Rogues to third place in the WCL South Division. The second place Elks are now just one game behind the first place Corvallis Knights.
