Elks Top Knights 12-1, Take Playoff Game 1

The Bend Elks showed up at Goss Stadium in Corvallis Tuesday for game 1of the first round of the WCL playoffs and defeated the Corvallis Knights 12-1. The Elks bats and pitching were in top form with Bend knocking 17 hits off Corvallis pitching. Elks pitching allowed only 5 hits and a single run to the WCL wildcard team.

Rio Gomez got the start and looked strong going 4 2/3 allowing only 4 hits and 1 earned run. Gomez walked 4 and struck out 2. Harrison Pyatt and Janson Junk finished from the bullpen, collectivly giving up no hits to the 15 Knights batters they faced. Pyatt struck out 1 and Junk 2. Neither reliever walked any Knights. Pyatt got the win for the Elks.

At the plate, every Bend Elk in the starting lineup scored at least one run. Hits came often for Bend with Cadyn Grenier and Derek Chapman both getting 3 hits each. Billy King, Cooper Hummel, Tommy Lane and Dalton Hurd each knocked 2 hits. Grenier, King, Hummel and Lane were responsible for 2 RBI's each.

The best of 3 series continues Wednesday night at Vince Genna Stadium in Bend. Bend needs one more win against the Knights to move to the championship round that starts Saturday in either Bellingham, Washington or Kelowna, British Columbia. Tonight Bellingham took game one in Bellingham, 2-1. Two dollar Tuesday pricing will be in effect tomorrow and for all post season home games at Genna.
