
Elks One Game Away from WCL Championship, Win 15-9

The Bend Elks took game one of the West Coast League championship series at Elks Stadium in Kelowna British Columbia Saturday night. The final score of game one of the best of 3 series was Bend 15, Kelowna 9.
The Elks bats wasted no time getting runs on the scoreboard by sending 11 batters to the plate in the 1st and putting 6 runs on the board off of Falcons starting pitcher Nate Hamby, who only lasted one inning. The Falcons came back in the bottom of the first and scored 3 runs off of Bend starter Nate Hunter. Bend started the top of the 2nd by scoring 4 more runs, started with a leadoff solo home run from Tyler Davis bringing the score to 10-3 after 1 1/2 innings. Kelowna managed a single run in their half of the 2nd bringing the score to 10-4 after 2. Both teams bats were held quiet by good pitching until the bottom of the 5th when Kelowna managed to get 2 more runs against Elk pitching, bringing the Falcons within 4 runs of Bend after 5 innings.
The Elks got a run back in the top of the 6th when West Tunnel blasted the first of 2 home runs on his evening. The Falcons put single runs on the board in both the 6th and 7th innings bringing the score to 11-8 after 7 innings. Tyler Davis started the 8th by getting hit by a pitch and was sacrificed to 2nd from a sacrifice bunt form Patrick Flynn, then West Tunnell knocked his second HR of the night over the right field fence. The Elks scored 2 more runs in the top of the 9th when Tyler Davis hit a 2RBI double scoring 2 more Elks who walked earlier in that inning.
Kelowna threatened in the bottom of the 9 when Vinny Esposito led off with a double then advanced to third on a wild pitch and then scored on a 4-3 put out. Josh Egan the reached first after being hit by a pitch, then finally the game ended on a JJ Muno grounder to Tommy Lane at first. Nate Hamby takes the loss for Kelowna and Bend's Jake Forrester received the win. Jansen Junk got the save.
With Bend up 1-0- in the best of 3 game championship series the Elks can take the West Coast League Championship Monday night at Vince Genna Stadium in Bend in front of their home crowd. If the Falcons manage to take game 2 , game 3 will be at Genna Tuesday.
Game time is set for 6:35 PM Monday with 2 dollar Tuesday pricing in effect. Both free video and audio feeds available at the bendelks.com web page and Facebook page. The live broadcast can be heard at 90.1 FM in the ballpark with Tris Reisfar calling the action.
