Bend Elks News Release
BEND, OREGON October 16, 2013- George Fox University head baseball coach Marty Hunter will coach the Elks in 2014. The 2009 Northwest Conference Co-Coach of the Year, has kept alive the tradition of excellence established by George Fox University Sports Hall of Fame coaches Pat Casey and Pat Bailey by leading the nationally-recognized Bruins' baseball program to a 159-86 (.649) record in his first six seasons as head coach.
Marty coached the Bend High Lava Bears from 1990-1994 and had a 68-40 record with Bend, winning Intermountain Conference titles in 1991 and 1992. He was named Coach of the Year in the conference both seasons. In 1990, he served as an assistant coach with the Bend Bucks, a team in the professional Class A Northwest League.
Said General Manager Jim Richards, "we are thrilled that coach Hunter is able to coach for the Bend Elks next summer. Marty brings structure, significant collegiate head coaching experience, is well connected in the northwest for recruiting players, and has roots both in Bend and at this stadium. Having someone of Marty's stature to carve out the time to coach in Bend next summer is a tremendous lift for the Bend Elks Baseball Club. We will provide Marty all the support he needs and welcome him back to Bend. The Bruins have sent us players since our inaugural season in 2000; we have appreciated our long standing relationship with the coaching staff at George Fox University."
