Elks give up 4 in the 8th, lose to Thurston County Senators 8-3

The Bend Elks had a 3-2 lead through 4 innings, but the Thurston County Senators scored 1 in the 5th, 1 in the 6th, and 4 runs in the 8th inning as Bend fell to Thurston County 8-3 in non-league action Tuesday from Vince Genna Stadium.

The Elks took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st as Jordan Aboites and Cory Mack walked to open up the ball game, Aboites came around to score on a groundout by Grant Newton and an RBI single from Jo Caroll put the Elks up on top in the 1st.

It would be a back and forth game early as the Senators came back in the top of the 3rd inning and got a 2 run single off the bat from Brandon Grimsley, scoring JJ Nazarro and Sho Nakahama to tie the game at 2.

Bend recaptured the lead in the bottom of the 3rd inning as Landon Frost's RBI double scored Grant Newton, giving the Elks a 3-2 lead.

The score held there until the top of the 5th inning, and the Senators would control the game the rest of the way. Thurston County scored 1 in the 5th, 1 in the 6th to take the lead, and broke the game open in the 8th inning, sending all 9 hitters to the plate, and were the benefactors of four walks and a hit batsmen, as well as a single by Nazarro, as the Senators scored 4 in the inning and held on to win by the 8-3 final.

Bend will be back in action Thursday in Klamath Falls to take on the Gems for 2 games and resume West Coast League Play post All-Star Break. First pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m., fans can tune into the call beginning at 6:15 by clicking "listen live" from bendelks.com.
