EL Recognizes Inglin, Keppel

PORTLAND, ME – Eastern League President Joseph McEacharn has announced his selections for the Eastern League Chevrolet Pitcher and Player of the Week for the week ending July 13th, 2003:

Reading Phillies outfielder Jeff Inglin has been named the Eastern League's Chevrolet Player of the Week for the week ending July 13th. Inglin, a native of Petaluma, California, hit .448 (13-for-29) with three doubles, three home runs, 12 RBI, nine runs scored, three walks, one stolen base and had a slugging percentage of .759 in seven games last week. The 27-year old drove in at least one run in every game last week and had multiple hits in five of the seven games, raising his batting average on the season from .286 to .301. The 5'11", 180 lb. slugger has not committed an error in 94 games this season and is currently leading the league in home runs (16) and RBI (72). Jeff was signed by the Philadelphia Phillies as a Minor League Free Agent on December 31, 2002.

Bob Keppel, a right-handed pitcher for the Binghamton Mets, is the Eastern League's Chevrolet Pitcher of the Week for the week ending July 13th. The Chesterfield, Missouri native was 1-0 with six strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA last week. In his first appearance of the week, the 21-year old struck out five batters and did not surrender a walk while scattering one run on two hits in six innings of work to earn a no-decision against the Erie SeaWolves at NYSEG Stadium. In his second start of the week the 6'5", 200 lb. hurler tossed a complete game one-hit shutout against the first-place New Haven Ravens at Yale Field on Sunday, to improve his record to 4-1 and lower his ERA to 1.60 on the season. Keppel was selected by the New York Mets in the first round (36th overall) of the June 2000 draft.
