Calgary Stampeders News Release
The Calgary Stampeders are proud to announce that eight members of the team are 2009 Canadian Football League West Division All-Stars. The players are running back Joffrey Reynolds, receiver Jeremaine Copeland, offensive linemen Ben Archibald and Dimitri Tsoumpas, cornerbacks Dwight Anderson and Brandon Browner, kicker Sandro DeAngelis and punter Burke Dales.
Reynolds ran for 1,504 yards this season to capture his second consecutive CFL rushing title. He also led the league in yards from scrimmage with 1,935 thanks to 36 catches for a career-high 431 yards. He scored 11 rushing touchdowns and two receiving touchdowns for a total of 13 majors, which ranked him second in the CFL. Reynolds is Calgary's Most Outstanding Player nominee.
Copeland, who is a division all-star for the third time in his career, led the CFL with 12 receiving touchdowns and ranked fifth in the league with 1,235 yards on 81 catches. It is Copeland's third 1,000-yard season with the Stamps and his fifth overall.
Archibald and Tsoumpas were part of an offensive line that paved the way for Reynolds' rushing title. The Stampeders also ranked third in the CFL with just 34 sacks allowed. Archibald is the Stampeders' nominee for the Most Outstanding Lineman award while Tsoumpas is Calgary's representative for Top Canadian.
Anderson is Calgary's nominee for Most Outstanding Defensive Player and a first-time division all-star. He shared the club lead with three interceptions including one that was returned 52 yards for a touchdown. He also recovered three fumbles, forced two fumbles and made a career-high 55 tackles.
Browner shared the team lead in interceptions with Anderson and like Anderson he returned one of his three picks for a touchdown. Browner led the Stamps with eight pass knockdowns and he made 39 tackles in earning his second consecutive division all-star nod.
DeAngelis is a West all-star for the fourth time in his career as he led all division kickers with 176 points, 42 field goals and an 85.7 per cent field goal success rate.
Dales led all CFL punters in 2009 with a 46.0-yard average per kick. This is his second career division all-star honour.
