Eight Late Runs Give Drive 9-2 Win over Lakewood

LAKEWOOD, NJ - Wendell Rijo drove in four runs over the last two innings as Greenville plated three in the 8th and five in the 9th to top the BlueClaws 9-2 on Wednesday afternoon at FirstEnergy Park.

The Drive took a 3-2 lead on Rijo's two-run double off Dan Child (0-1) as part of a three-run 8th inning which gave them the lead. They added five runs in the 9th inning off Matt Hockenberry, including a two-run double by Cole Sturgeon and a two-run triple by Rijo.

The BlueClaws (11-21/38-63) have now lost three straight games and are 25-games under .500 for the first time this year. Greenville (8-25/42-60) won the first meeting of the season between the two teams and snapped their six-game losing streak in the process.

The BlueClaws took a 2-1 lead in the 6th inning on RBI doubles by Andrew Pullin and Zach Green.

Lakewood starter Yoel Mecias allowed one run over five innings, a home run to Greenville's Kevin Mager, a Middletown North grad, in the second inning but got a no-decision.

Drive starter Daniel McGrath gave up two runs over six innings and also got a no-decision. Raynel Velette (5-2) threw three scoreless innings of relief to earn his fifth win of the year.

The series continues Thursday night. RHP Jon Prosinski (3-3, 4.66) opposes RHP Myles Smith (3-6, 6.31) at 7:05 pm.
