Edmonton Rush defeat division rivals in overtime

EDMONTON- Ryan O'Connor's fourth goal of the season at 5:52 of overtime put the game away for the Edmonton Rush as they defeated the Portland Lumberjacks by of score of 9 to 8 Friday night at Rexall Place.

Rush offence came out in full force as they maintained the lead throughout the first half. The only goal in the first quarter came from Kevin Howard's first goal of the season at 1:56. Edmonton then managed to score four more goals in the second, pushing them into a 5-1 lead into halftime. Portland's Peter Morgan recorded the only goal for the Lumberjacks during the half at 2:45 on the power play. The lone goal by Portland was the fewest goals allowed in a half by the Rush in team history. Both goals scored short handed by the Rush in the second, tied a record for most short handed goals in a game.

Portland cranked up their offence in the third quarter as goals by Ryder Bateman, Ryan Powell, and former Edmonton Rush forward Tyler Heavenor brought the Lumberjacks back into the game and down by two heading into the final quarter. Portland wasn't about to back down in the fourth either as they scored three more in the fourth and Tyler Heavenor's second goal of the night at 12:24 tied the game at 8-8 forcing overtime.

Assistant Captain Chris Gill who was just named to the Western Division team for the NLL All-Star Game and Forward Dan Stroup both led the Rush with 4 points each. Gill recorded three goals and one assist, while Stroup had one goal and three assists. Randy Daly and Jason Wulder both recorded three points, while Ryan O'Connor and Kevin Howard had two each. Jamie Roy, Captain Andrew Turner, Rory Glaves, Chris McElroy, and Curtis Palidwor each chipped in one point for the Rush.

Ryan Powell led the Lumberjacks with four points, two goals and two assists. Ryan Bateman, Scott Mazuren and Tyler Heavenor each recorded three points, while Bruce Alexander and Darren Reisig each had two. Del Halladay, Kelly Hall, Richard Morgan, and Peter Morgan all had a point each for the Lumberjacks.

Curtis Palidwor had 29 saves for the Rush, while Dallas Eliuk made 36 saves for Portland.
