Edmonton Energy Makes It to IBL Championship Game But Falls
July 3, 2011 - International Basketball League (IBL)
Edmonton Energy News Release
The Edmonton Energy professional basketball team makes it to the International Basketball League Championship Game but falls to the Vancouver Volcanoes 124 to 116 in a thrilling game.
Edmonton earned a bye to move past the first round and in the second round- Edmonton beat the Albany NY Legends to set up today's championship game this afternoon in Vancouver Washington against the Vancouver Volcanoes. Edmonton Energy Head Coach Peter Sambu got the most out of his players and stuck around for the trophy presentation (for the Volcanoes)- saying "this IS us next year" quietly to the IBL Commissioner- but in the end, the Energy team was satisfied with their performance for the 2011 year. The players not from Alberta will fly out of Portland Oregon to their respective home towns- tonight. Owner David Dorward seemed happy with the 2011 season as is Team President Rick Stanley and both look forward to an earlier commitment to 2012 giving them even more time to line things up in what they think will be their best season yet (the 2012 season and with games at the Go Centre).
