Edmonton Aviators News Release

Edmonton, April 14, 2004 - Today, the Edmonton Aviators announced that defender Todd Rattee will not play for their expansion A-League franchise this season.

Despite Todd's passion for the game, he has decided to focus his energy on his job and young family. In addition to having a young family, Todd is a firefighter with the City of Edmonton which is a rigorous job that requires a significant commitment.

"When I considered my work and my family, I came to the realization that playing professional soccer required a lot of sacrifice which I am unwilling to make at this point in my career" said Rattee. "Soccer has been a big part of my life and will always be one of my passions. I wish the Aviators organization great success as they take to the field this spring, said Todd. "I'll definitely be cheering them on from the stands."

A former NAIA All-Canadian college player and five time NPSL All-Sar with the Edmonton Drillers, Rattee has had an accomplished soccer career.

At 32, Rattee has more than 10 years of pro experience. A Vancouver native, he started his career playing in his hometown for the 86ers. After four years with the 86ers he moved on to play a single season with the Milwaukee Wave before finding a home in Edmonton with the Drillers.

"Todd is a quality soccer player and most importantly a quality person. Being an Edmonton firefighter and having a young family are both big responsibilities" said Joe Petrone-Director of Soccer Operations for the Edmonton Aviators Soccer Club. "Although we are disappointed that Todd will not be joining us, we completely respect his decision," said Petrone. "We thank Todd for all that he has and is continuing to give the city of Edmonton",

The Edmonton Aviators are the newest addition to Edmonton's professional sports scene. Both the Aviators Men's and Women's soccer teams will play in the United Soccer Leagues. Both teams will play at Commonwealth Stadium beginning in spring of 2004.
