Bloomington Edge News Release

Bloomington, IL, 2/16/12 - The Bloomington Edge, presented by Heller Stores, will open their season on Sunday on the road when they take on the Chicago Slaughter at 2 pm. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday but was changed in the offseason. This will be the first game that the team plays since being renamed the Edge.

The game will not only be the first with a new team name, but it will also be a reunion for former Extreme coach Kenton Carr and quarterback Dusty Burke. In the offseason the Edge hired Carr as head coach. Burke had been in retirement and coaching University High School in Normal, IL, but Carr was able to bring him back to help lead the team.

Last season the Bloomington Extreme finished 9-5 and finished second in the Great Lakes Division to the Green Bay Blizzard. Bloomington would eventually fall 39-34 to the Omaha Beef in the opening round. As the Extreme the team made the playoffs every season except for their inaugural season in 2006. In 2008 they went to the United Bowl and fell to Sioux Falls. This year they will look for a return trip to the playoffs as the Edge and to move forward.

The Chicago Slaughter finished last year behind Bloomington with an 8-6 record. They lost to the Reading Express 76-33 in the opening round of the playoffs. Chicago has been around since the 2007 season and have made the playoffs every season. In 2007, 08, 09 the Slaughter were in the CIFL and moved to the IFL in 2010, 11. In 2009 they went 14-0 and won the CIFL championship.

Next Sunday (Feb. 26) the Edge play their home opener at U.S. Cellular Coliseum. They will take on the Reading Express at 3:05 pm. The game will be the first of the season for Reading. For more information on the Edge visit bloomingtonedge.com and the IFL at goifl.com.
