
Edge Take Game One over the Express, 123-120

St. John's Edge News Release
It would not have ended any other way for the St. John's Edge who took a 1-0 series lead Friday night with a 123-120 victory over the Windsor Express as the two clubs headed to double overtime to find a winner. After four quarters of play both clubs were tied at 97, and again at 108 at the end of the first overtime frame.
The Edge put together a strong second half to draw even with the Express as St. John's found themselves down 47-39 at halftime and trailed by as many as 12 midway through the third quarter.
Edge Associate Head Coach Steve Marcus said at halftime the message to the team was to "make shots" in the second half and the team did just that as they put up 58 points in the second half to tie the game.
Jarryn Skeete and Carl English put the game away in overtime as Skeete hit two key 3-point shots and English made two free-throws with seven seconds left on the clock en route to the win. Both teams will have a quick break Saturday before Game Two Sunday afternoon of the quick five-games series.
St. John's Edge:
Carl English, Desmond Lee and Wally Ellenson all finished with double-doubles for the Edge. English put up 30 points, adding 11 rebounds, Lee put up 15 points with a matching 15 rebounds, and Ellsenson chipped in with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Windsor Express
Maurice Jones led the Windsor Express with 30 points, adding 9 assists and 5 rebounds. Shaquille Keith added 27 points for Windsor accompanied by 8 rebounds.
Inside the Numbers
St. John's went 29-for-33 (88 percent) from the free-throw line, the club also scored 36 points off the bench. The Express went 42-for-88 (48 percent) from the field-goal line and scored 48 points inside the paint.
