The Bloomington Edge open the Champions Professional Indoor Football League season by taking on a squad that scored more than six dozen points in its opener last week.
The Edge take on the Salina Bombers at 7:05 p.m. Friday in Kansas at the Salina Bicentennial Center. The Bombers earned a 77-70 overtime win at Sioux City in last week's opener behind 278 passing yards from Dane Simoneau on 21-of-29 completions with two interceptions and six touchdowns, including the 14-yard game-winner to Ricky Roberts. Attrail Snipes caught six passes for 84 yards and two touchdowns while Roberts caught six passes for 76 yards and three scores. Simoneau was the leading rusher with 60 yards on 11 carries, followed by 19 carries from Keithen Valentine for 43 yards and three touchdowns. Isaiah Barfield recorded eight tackles for the Bombers with seven tackles each registered by DeWayne Autrey, Brandon McKinney and Ira Autrey.
The Edge finished 5-7 last season for a sixth-place finish in CPIFL. The Bombers completed their season at 8-3 with a fourth-place finish but advanced to the championship game, falling 47-34 to the Wichita Wild.
Bloomington visits Nebraska next Friday to face the Lincoln Haymakers followed by a bye week before the home opener on Saturday, March 29 against the Omaha Beef in a 7:05 p.m. kickoff at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
