St. John's Edge News Release

St. John's, NL - The St. John's Edge continued their win-streak with another double-digit victory over the Central Division-leading Sudbury FIVE. The Edge defeated the Five by a score of 120 to 98, holding the expansion franchise below 100 points for the second straight night (just the Five's third time all season being held to less than 100).

In the first quarter, it looked as if the Five would try and redeem themselves after a 20-point loss the night before, as they took a two-point lead into the second quarter. However, the Edge found their energy again in the second quarter, outscoring their opponents 36-26 to take an eight-point lead into the half.

Once again a sharpshooting Edge team came out in the third quarter firing on all cylinders. On the night the team would shoot 52% from the field and 48% from behind the three-point line. Sudbury could not put together any late runs as the St. John's defence held the league's top scorer, Braylon Rayson, to 18 points which is 7 points below his season average. St. John's were also able to command control of the paint, outscoring Sudbury 50-to-44 in the low blocks on way to the victory.

The Edge were led offensively on this night by Maurice Jones Sr. who dropped 25 points to go along with 9 rebounds. Just behind Jones Sr. was Dez Lee, the Norfolk, VA native dropped 22 points and pulled down 7 rebounds. All the while dealing with some discomfort after a first-half collision. Glen 'Baby Davis' continued to make his numbers rise, scoring 16 points with 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals in 22 minutes of play. Overall, St. John's had six players score in double digits with every player in the lineup scoring at least a point.

For the Sudbury Five, they were led by Grandy Glaze, who played with some fire and dropped a game-high 36 points in the loss. Glaze was in tough with Glen Davis and Keith Wright Jr. playing him tough throughout the game in the post. However, his efforts were not enough to bring Sudbury back into a game that saw St. John's hold a lead for 3 full quarters of play.

This series was the last one for the Edge in 2018, as the team disperses, and players travel home for a short Christmas break before returning to St. John's for practice on December 26th. The Edge will be back in town on January 19th and 20th when London come back to St. John's for the first time since their Central Division Finals match-up last year. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by visiting the Mile One Box Office, calling 576-7657, or online at mileonecentre.com.
