St. Catharines, ON - The St. John's Edge (17-10) held off a late-game surge by the River Lions (12-17) 107-104 Saturday night at the Meridian Centre. The Edge, who held a 14-point lead in the third quarter, capitalized on some timely buckets late in the game to secure the victory.
Player Performance
St. John's Edge:
Carl English led the Edge with 22 points and 2 assists. Alex Johnson put some very timely points and finished with 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. In just his second game with the Edge, Newcomer Ryan Reid put forth another strong effort in addition to earning a spot in the starting line up Reid contributed with 14 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocks.
River Lions:
The River Lions were led by Guillaume Boucard and his 25 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists. Jaylon Tate backed up Boucard's performance with a double-double of 23 points, 7 rebounds, and 10 assists, Tate also went a perfect 12-12 from the free-throw line.
Inside the Numbers:
St. John's went 12-for-31 (38.7 percent) from three-point territory while hitting 15-23 (65.2 percent) of their free throws.
The River Lions went 6-for-29 (20.7 percent) from three-point territory while getting 54 points from the paint.
